For anyone considering emigration – WALK ON

Another unfortunate river of young Irish people are considering and planning the flights to A PLACE NONE OF US HAS BEEN! WALK ON! Walk strong.

Happy holidays.

I’m sufficiently aged to remember school holidays filled with outdoor activities for all children. Hurling, gaelic football, soccer, tennis for the few weeks of Wimbleton, rounders, swimming, a sponsored walk/run for Concern. If the olympics were on, big decisions had to be made to see which new sport we’d love most. There really was no end to the possibilities of healty outdoor interaction and adventure. Groups of young lads would take to walking the miles of fields around our village, maybe after a swim and before an evening football match. We seemed to spend the whole day out in the air. If it was raining we could still be found taking shelter outside, praying for the sun to break through again to continue to the next level. Sitting for hours on end watching television was no life at all and certainly not allowed in our house – unless it was world cup or wimbleton. Even a mother loves the big sporting occasion and having her children safe and well indoors, without the worry of accidents.
Now unfortunately Nintendo, Wii, PS3’s, online and offline computer gaming has taken over on a wet or dry summer day for many Irish children. Library books, colouring books, Lego or a five hundred piece jig-saw wouldn’t get many smiles these days as a birthday gift.
A major aspect of our play as children was the unending conversation, a comradarie with neighbours and friends, many of whom you knew only by the hours of kicking a ball or pucking a sliotar together. Fundamentals of give and take, of team work and self-esteem building were all introduced from an early age. Strengt of conviction, hopes and dreams of future journeying and employment were established on the field of play. An all weather running track, playing pitches and a well established school boy league, local athletic association and G.A.A., (gaelic athletic association) made sure we were constantly scheduled to be out in the open air, staying healty and happy. Happy holidays.

Miserable Irish

I kid you not. I am sceptical and OK a bit cynical regarding the two indicators as shown below. Some of you may be tempted to look these as fair indexes of how up and down we get from up and down. Some one actually gets paid to enter next months update!!! Nice job mate, best of luck with that. One comes from www.statusireland.com and the other is an application attached to facebook. Serious coffee drinkers, the lot of them. Must have taken hours to work these out. Credible?

Happy chart

Misery Index.

Feel like emigrating anyone? Some major issues to be faced… can’t blame politicans who have enough on their plates… can’t blame retailers or farmers who have to pay growing costs…. No easy solutions to our misery. Click the link below to see full details of how difficult being in business is as a buyer or a seller.

Standing tall

Many analysts seem to be saying decisions which caused the present economic burdens in our world will have consequences for many years to come.

A quote from a very unrelated subject in Irish ancient history puts a few of today’s worries into a different perspective.

Check out this website if you want to know some more about stone circles…… I’ve changed my picture above to honour our ancient and mysterious past. God knows, it maybe interest in our past which could re-ignite future tourism and get us back on our feet to stand tall again.

http://www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/seanchlocha4.htm

“The assumed association of stone circles and rows with marginal or faltering land and climatic deterioration would suggest that their axial orientation is in fact an occidentation towards the summer sunset or moonset in the tradition of wedge-tomb builders – an attempt to ensure that the power of the sun would continue its magical effect on over-tilled and monocultural, rather than over-grazed, soils. In which case their social function would have been the building rather than the subsequent arcane, astronomical use. That this power of the sun was itself in doubt is instanced by an eighteen-year period in the 12th century BC when pollen analysis reveals there was no growth at all – as if a volcanic eruption had produced a cloud of ash which blocked out sunlight for a generation.”

Should get some attention from Irish feelings lovers now that I’ve signed up accounts with twitter, facebook, youtube, bebo, myspace, hi5, jhoos, grooveshark, digg, linkedin, technorati and the Bank of Ireland. Hope the world cup does not affect my numbers too much. Can’t wait to watch the $$$ roll in.

Hotmail, yahoo and Google are trying seriously to bid for my advertising space. Never before seen growth like this. I’m delighted with the attention. Give me a serious figure lads. We’ve 80,000 million potential followers out there. From watching Dragon’s Den, I’m not naive. I do know how to value my company. If I’m taken seriously, Irish Feelings is a gold mine…. Leprachaaauns, teeshirts, DVD’s not included. Who needs world cup excitement? Internet marketing and bloody hard work pay off. Absolutely delighted for meself.
